Neuromuscular Massage for Low Back Tightness & Sciatica-Like Pain

Low back tightness and radiating discomfort down the hip or leg can be frustrating—and it often isn’t just one spot that needs attention. Neuromuscular massage looks at the pattern: the muscles, trigger points, and compensations that may be contributing to your symptoms.

At Masi Therapy in Barnstable, MA, we use targeted work to help reduce tension, improve mobility, and support more comfortable movement.

Common muscle contributors

  • Glutes and deep hip rotators

  • Piriformis and surrounding hip stabilizers

  • Low back extensors (erector spinae)

  • Hip flexors that pull the pelvis forward

What a session may feel like

Neuromuscular work can be more specific than a relaxation massage. You may feel focused pressure on tender points, followed by a sense of release and improved ease of movement. We always adjust pressure to your comfort level.

Aftercare tips

  • Walk for 5–10 minutes later that day to keep things moving

  • Drink water and avoid intense workouts for 24 hours if you feel sore

  • Use gentle stretching—no forcing into pain

  • Note what activities trigger symptoms so we can tailor your next session
